FENCING
MARATHON
7th & 8th Sept. 2007
WELL - WE DID IT!!
Lots of bruises and aching joints - not to mention some horrific blisters.  But it was worth it. Keep
checking back on this page as I gradually update it with pictures, press cuttings and, of course, an
update on the amount raised.
For now, though, a HUGE thank you to everyone who took part - for however long - and to everyone who
raised money for this worthy cause.

SO WHAT WAS  IT ALL ABOUT THEN?

3 years ago, we decided to raise some money for Farleigh Hospice by holding a 24 hour fencing marathon.  It was such a success and was such fun that we decided to hold another one.
This time we supported
HEADWAY ESSEX  - the local branch of a charitable organisation that provides help and support for people with a brain injury and those who care for them.  This marvellous body of people helped one of our own Club members in the recent past and we now wanted to support them by raising both money and awareness of their cause.

  • The event was opened by Mary Beverley of Headway Essex who managed to almost deafen several people with a loud blast on the air horn and it was officially closed by Tony Sach with another blast followed by some words of support.

  • Fencing in relays across 2 pistes, we managed to keep going non stop for the whole 24 hour period

  • Probably as revenge for their narrow defeat last time, the Youth beat the Veterans by a significant margin

WE ARE INDEBTED TO SO MANY PEOPLE FOR
THEIR HELP AND SUPPORT - FENCERS AND
OTHERS.
