The TREVOR RICHARDS Award
History In the Summer of 2007, helped by his daughter and fellow fencer, Trevor Richards organised and arranged a 24 hour Fencing Marathon to raise funds for local brain injury charity - Headway. The charity was suggested by another fencer, Sherry Fuller, who was helped by the charity when she suffered minor brain injury following an infection caught whilst travelling overseas. The event raised almost £3000 and as a mark of her gratitude, at the end of the event, she presented Trevor with a ceremonial sword. After sitting in his lounge for a year, Trevor then decided that he would like to give the sword back to the club as an award for services to Chelmsford Fencing Club and/or the community. His only other stipulation was that is should not be given to the same person 2 years in a row. The committee at the time agreed to name it The Trevor Richards Award in honour of the donator and it is now given each year to the person who has done most overall for the club throughout the year - but not necessarily on the piste.
