About Us

Chelmsford Fencing Club has been running for over 50 years in central Chelmsford, over which time we have introduced hundreds of new fencers into one of the most exciting sports there is, and supported experienced fencers on their competitive journey.

As well as our weekly training sessions, we run specific classes for complete beginners and junior fencers, so please come along no matter your age or ability.

Coaching is available in all 3 weapons, and the club competes in regional and national competitions, as well as regular friendlies against local clubs.

When and Where

We are based in the Jubilee Sports Hall at the St. John Payne Catholic School, Partridge Avenue, Chelmsford, CM1 4JG.

When travelling from Broomfield Road direction – the sports hall is just past the main school entrance, left at the roundabout and then immediately left again into the Car Park. There is lots of free parking right outside the hall.

We fence every Wednesday evening:

Junior session: 7PM – 8PM

Adult beginner session: 8PM – 9PM

Adult session: 8PM – 10PM

Beginners and Juniors

Beginner Courses

We run regular adult fencing taster sessions and 6 week beginner courses throughout the year.

The course is structured in a way to take you from no fencing experience at all to the ability to conduct a proper fencing match. A general warm-up and stretching session is followed by fencing footwork, technical partner exercises and an opportunity for free fencing.

All sessions and courses are taught by an experienced, qualified fencing coach and all of the fencing equipment will be provided. You will need to wear long tracksuit bottoms, a t-shirt and sports trainers. At the end of each lesson there will be opportunity to put what you have learnt into practice by fencing fellow beginners.

Upcoming courses are advertised on our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/ChelmsfordFencing

Please email vicechair@chelmsfordfencingclub.com for any questions or to book your place.

Junior Fencing

For younger fencers, we run a separate weekly session for junior/early secondary school age children. This is for both complete beginners and experienced fencers looking to compete.
